Goose fair

Goose fair is a quite giant fun fair that comes to Nottingham every year on the first weekend of October. Originally a trade fair, It’s name is derived from the thousands of geese that were driven from Lincolnshire to be sold in Nottingham.

Nowadays however, the Forest Recreation ground is filled to the brim with huge rides, carousels, waltzers, millions of candy floss stalls and more than a few hook a ducks. Every year children (and I’m sure adults alike) look forward to the fair for a few thrills and to stock up on Grantham Gingerbread.

For me, it marks the beginning of winter. Wearing a hat, coat, scarf AND gloves to brave the cold. Walking (or weaving, depending on the busyness of the day) around in the dark, with the lights beaming and the smell of sugar and doughnuts in the air. This year i went three times. You’ve got to love it. (And it’s a lovely chance for photography too)
